Illinois State University Honors Anna Smith for Excellence in Literacy Research

Illinois State University has honored Anna Smith, associate professor in the university’s School of Teaching and Learning, with the Divergent Award for Excellence in Research on Literacy in a Digital Age. The award celebrates educators and scholars for their innovative research contributions to understanding literacy in digital spaces.

Dr. Smith has over two decades of experience as a teacher, teacher educator, and educational researcher. Her scholarly interests focus on writing development, transliteracies, and the intersection of teaching and learning. Her research led her to co-authoring Developing Writers: Teaching and Learning in the Digital Age (Open University Press, 2011). In addition to her faculty appointment, she serves as director of the Education Now Lab at Illinois State University.

Dr. Smith holds a Ph.D. from New York University.
