St. Lawrence University in New York Names Kathryn Morris as Its Nineteenth President

The St. Lawrence University board of trustees announced that Kathryn A. Morris will become the educational institution’s nineteenth president. She will take office on July 1.

“I am deeply honored to join this passionate, adventurous, and welcoming community,” Dr. Morris said. “From the academic reputation to the breadth of co-curricular opportunities for students, there were so many things that made St. Lawrence an attractive place to call home.”

St. Lawrence University in Canton New York, enrolls about 2,400 undergraduate students and several dozen graduate students, according to the most recent data available from the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 55 percent of the student body.

For the past eight years, Dr. Morris has been serving as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Prior to her time as provost, Dr. Morris served as a professor of psychology and was chair of that department at Butler. Her areas of expertise include social psychology, the psychology of gender, methodology, and statistics.

Dr. Morris earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania. She earned a master‘s degree and a Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of Texas at Austin.
