Vanderbilt Professor Lorrie Moore Wins National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction
Lorrie Moore, professor of English at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, was recognized for her novel I Am Homeless If This Is Not My Home. She has authored numerous other publications throughout her four-decades long career, including three other novels, many short-stories, and various works of nonfiction.
In Memoriam: Micere Githae Mugo, 1942-2023
A native of Kenya, Dr. Mugo fled her native land to political turmoil and taught at St. Lawrence University. After returning to Africa to teach in Zambia and Zimbabwe, in 1992 she was named a visiting professor at the Africana Studies and Research Center at Cornell University. A year later, she joined the department of African American studies at Syracuse University where she served for 22 years.
St. Lawrence University in New York Names Kathryn Morris as Its Nineteenth President
For the past eight years, Dr. Morris has been serving as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Earlier, Dr. Morris served as a professor of psychology and was chair of that department at Butler. Her areas of expertise include social psychology, the psychology of gender, methodology, and statistics.
Brown University Researcher Identifies Women With High Risk of Being Raped at College
Professor Kate Carey, lead author of the study, is quick to point out that in no way were sexual assault victims responsible for what happened. Rather, she says that understanding who may be at the greatest risk could be used to tailor educational and prevention programs on college campuses.
