Where Do Women’s Colleges Stand in This Year’s U.S. News Rankings?

The magazine U.S. News and World Report recently issued its annual rankings of the best colleges and universities in the United States. Several women’s colleges are included in the rankings of the top 35 best liberal arts colleges in the nation.

Wellesley College in Massachusetts was ranked in a tie for fourth overall, behind only Amherst College and Williams College, both in Massachusetts and Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. Wellesley tied for third in last year’s rankings.

Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, was ranked in a tie for 15th place. A year ago, Smith College was ranked ninth.

Other women’s colleges that ranked in the top 35 national liberal arts institutions were Barnard College in New York City (tie for 22nd), Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania (tie for 28th), Scripps College in Claremont, California (tie for 28th)and Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts (34th).
