A Trio of Women Appointed to Dean Positions at Major Universities

Cheryl Ney was appointed dean of the Charter College Education at California State University, Los Angeles.  Dr. Ney joined the administration in 2009. She has served as associate provost, interim provost, and dean of graduate studies. Before joining the staff at California State University, Los Angeles, Dr. Ney was a professor at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.

Dr. Ney is a graduate of Arizona State University. She holds a master’s degree in chemistry from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Chicago.

Elena D. Hicks was named dean of undergraduate admissions at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. She has been serving as dean of admissions at Loyola University Maryland. Prior to her nine years at Loyola, Hicks was director of admissions at Saint Mary’s Hall, a college preparatory school in San Antonio.

Hicks holds a bachelor’s degree in speech communication and French and a master’s degree in liberal arts from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.

Mary Klotman was named dean of the Duke University School of Medicine. She will also hold the title of vice chancellor for health affairs at Duke University. For the past seven years, Dr. Klotman has been chair of the department of medicine at the university.

Dr. Klotman is a magna cum laude graduate of Duke University, where she majored in zoology. She earned her medical degree and completed her residency in infectious diseases at the Duke University School of Medicine.
