Three Women Scientists Join the Faculty at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology

The School of Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge has seven new faculty members this semester. Three of the new faculty members are women.

niktaNikta Fakhri is a new assistant professor of physics. Since 2010, she has been conducting postdoctoral research at the University of Göttingen in Germany. Dr. Fakhri is a graduate of Sharif University in Tehran, Iran, where she majored in chemical and petroleum engineering. She earned a Ph.D. in chemical and biomolecular engineering at Rice University in Houston, Texas.

SchlauCohen+LogoGabriela Schlau-Cohen was hired as an assistant professor of chemistry. Since 2011, she has been a postdoctoral fellow in chemistry at Stanford University. Dr. Schlau-Cohen is a magna cum graduate of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, where she majored in chemical physics. She earned a Ph.D. in chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley.

winslowLindley Winslow is a new assistant professor of physics at MIT. Since 2012, she has been serving as an assistant professor at the University of California, Los Angeles. Previously, she conducted postdoctoral research at MIT for nearly four years. Dr. Winslow holds a bachelor’s degree in physics and astronomy and a Ph.D. in physics from the University of California, Berkeley.
