Two Women Among the Four Finalists for Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas

university_arkansas_logoThe University of Arkansas has announced four finalists for the position of dean of the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. All four candidates will be visiting the Fayetteville campus over the next several weeks for interviews and a series of public forums. Two of the four finalists are women.

CynthiaYoungCynthia Y. Young is an associate dean in the College of Sciences and professor of mathematics at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. her research concerns the atmospheric effects on laser beams.

Dr. Young is a graduate of the University of North Carolina, where she majored in mathematics education. She holds a master’s degree in electrical engineering and a Ph.D. in applied mathematics from the University of Washington.

PamelaJansmaPamela E. Jansma is dean of the College of Science at the University of Texas at Arlington. She has served in that role since 2009. Earlier, she was dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at New Mexico State University and chair of the department of geosciences at the University of Arkansas.

Dr. Jansma was born in Tokyo, Japan. She is a graduate of Stanford University, where she majored in geology. Dr. Jansma holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in geological sciences from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
