More than 40 percent of undergraduate women students at Tulane University who responded to the survey reported that they had been victims of sexual assault since coming to campus. Some 24 percent of undergraduate women respondents reported that they had been raped.

Carolyn Ellis Staton, the first woman to hold the position of provost at the University of Mississippi. At Yale law School she was a roommate of Hillary Rodham. The former First Lady and presidential candidate spoke at Dr. Staton’s funeral service.
In Memoriam: Anna Louise Cherrie Epps, 1930-2017
In 1997 Dr. Epps was named dean of the School of Medicine at Meharry Medical College, making her not only Meharry’s first female dean of the medical school, but also the only African-American woman with a Ph.D. to become dean of a U.S. medical school.
