Laura Stultz Named Provost of Birmingham-Southern College in Alabama

Laura Stultz has been appointed provost and vice president for academic affairs at Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama. She has served as the college’s interim provost since June 2023.

Dr. Stultz first joined the Birmingham-Southern College faculty in 1997 as an assistant professor of chemistry, eventually earning the rank of full professor in 2010. Throughout her tenure, she has served in multiple leadership roles including chair of the department of chemistry and physics, Lupton Area chair, and interim associate provost. As a scholar, Dr. Stultz focuses her research on investigating the chemistry of metal containing anti-cancer drugs. She teaches general and organic chemistry classes and develops course-based research experiences for undergraduate students.

Dr. Stutlz is a graduate of Oberlin College in Ohio where she majored in chemistry. She received her Ph.D in chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Update: Birmingham Southern College has announced that it is closing at the end of the academic year.
