Adiam Tsegai Is the New President of Erie Community College in Buffalo

Adiam Tsegai is the new president of Erie Community College in Buffalo, a campus of the State University of New York System.

Erie Community College enrolls more than 7,800 students according to the most recent data available from the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 52 percent of the student body.

“As a first-generation college student, enrolling at SUNY Erie granted an opportunity to access higher education with a community atmosphere and provided me with the foundation and confidence to advance both my education and career,” Dr. Tsegai said. ‘I look forward to working with the faculty and staff to create a more welcoming environment for students.”

Dr. Tsegai previously served as the college’s Officer-in-Charge since 2022, provost and vice president for academic affairs, a position she was appointed to in mid-2021, after serving as the college’s associate vice president for academic affairs of health sciences, engineering and technologies. Dr. Tsegai joined SUNY Erie as the dean of engineering and technologies in 2018.

Dr. Tsegai is a graduate of the University at Buffalo, where she received a bachelor’s degree in psychology and African American studies, a master’s degree in education, and a Ph.D. in educational and leadership policy and social foundations.
