Universities Announce the Appointments of Eight Women to Administrative Posts

Patricia Cardenas is the new director of admissions at the Virginia Tech Innovation Campus in Alexandria, Virginia. She was the associate director of doctoral recruitment for Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey. Earlier, she was the associate director of admissions at the Ross University School of Medicine in Florida.

Cardenas holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and Latin American civilization studies from Rutgers University in New Jersey. She earned a master’s degree in program management from Devry University’s Keller Graduate School of Management.

Tami Gouveia is the new director of the Center for Innovation in Social Work & Health at the Boston University School of Social Work. She was director of health and human services audits for the Massachusetts State Auditor. Earlier, she was a Massachusetts state representative from 2019 to 2023.

Dr. Gouveia holds a master of social work degree, a master of public health degree, and a doctor of public health degree in management, leadership, and policy, all from Boston University.

Susan Longhenry has been named the next director of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Sheldon Museum of Art, effective August 15. She has been serving as director and chief curator of the Haggerty Museum of Art at Marquette University in Milwaukee. Earlier, she was director of the University of New Mexico’s Harwood Museum of Art.

Longhenry is a graduate of Indiana University. She holds a master’s degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Rita L. Walters is the new vice president for development and alumni engagement at Montclair State University in New Jersey. Most recently, she served as vice president of development and alumni relations at the Union Theological Seminary in New York City. Earlier in her career, Walters was senior associate director of development for Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

Walters holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, New Jersey. She earned a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University.

Tracey Goldstein was appointed director of the One Health Institute at Colorado State University. She was the division chief for the Emerging Threats Division in the Bureau for Global Health at the United States Agency for International Development.

Dr. Goldstein earned a bachelor’s degree in aquatic biology at the University of California, Santa Barbara. She holds a Ph.D. in comparative pathology at the University of California, Davis.

Diana Harvey was named the inaugural vice chancellor for strategic communication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, effective September 1. She has been serving as associate vice chancellor for communications and public affairs at the University of California, Berkeley. Earlier, Harvey served as director of communications, marketing, and alumni engagement at Duke University’s Global Health Institute and as chief communications officer and deputy chief of staff to the president of the University of Minnesota.

Harvey earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in immigrant health communication from the University of Minnesota.

Kamala Green is the new associate vice chancellor for staff human resources and chief human resources officer at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Before working as a consultant, Green was the associate vice president for human resources/special assistant to the president for equity & inclusion at Mills College in Oakland, which is now a campus of Northeastern University.

Green holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master of public administration degree from San Francisco State University.

Teresa Nichols was appointed vice president of university development and alumni engagement at the University of North Florida. She will also serve as the executive director of the UNF Foundation. Nichols first joined the university in 2015 as a director of development for the Coggin College of Business.

Nichols holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Florida.
