In Memoriam: Christine Wonneman Levi, 1941-2023

Christine Levi, who was a coach and taught physical education at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, and the University of Missouri died on April 9. She was 81 years old.

A native of Mexico, Missouri, she was born one hour before the attack on Pearl Harbor began on December 7, 1941. She earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physical education at the University of Missouri. As a student athlete, Levi was on the tennis, field hockey, and track and field teams. She held the women’s javelin record at the university for 35 years.

While teaching at Stephens College and the University of Missouri, Levi also coached volleyball, basketball, field hockey, archery, billiards, and riflery.
