In Memoriam: Sherry F. Colb, 1966-2022

Sherry F. Colb, the C.S. Wong Professor of Law at Cornell University, a scholar and prolific writer on constitutional criminal procedure, animal rights, and sexual equality, died on August 25 at her home in Ithaca, New York. She was 56 years old and had suffered from cancer.

Professor Colb came to Cornell Law School in 2008 from the Rutgers University School of Law. She was also a visiting professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Law and Columbia Law School. She earned a bachelor’s degree and was valedictorian of her graduating class at Columbia College. Professor Colb earned a juris doctorate from Harvard Law School and then clerked for Judge Wilfred Feinberg of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and for Associate Justice Harry A. Blackmun of the United States Supreme Court.

Professor Colb was the author or co-author of several books including Beating Hearts: Abortion and Animal Rights (Columbia University Press, 2016), Mind If I Order the Cheeseburger? And Other Questions People Ask Vegans (Lantern Publishing, 2013) and When Sex Counts: Making Babies and Making Law (Rowman & Littlefield Publishers, 2007).
