The College of the Desert in Palm Desert, California, Names Martha Garcia as Its Next President

The Desert Community College District board of trustees announced that Martha Garcia has been offered the position of Superintendent/President at College of the Desert in Palm Desert, California. She is expected to take office on August 20.

The College of the Desert is a two-year educational institution with enrollments of just under 12,000 students, according to the latest data from the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 56 percent of the student body.

Dr. Garcia has been serving as the Superintendent/President of Imperial Valley College in Imperial, California. She has been employed in the California Community College System since 1999.

Dr. Garcia earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and doctorate in educational leadership from San Diego State University. She also holds a master’s degree in educational counseling from National University in San Diego.
