Three Woman Scholars Who Have Been Appointed to Named Professorships

Eiko Maruko Siniawer was named the Class of 1955 Memorial Professor of History at Williams College. She joined the faculty in 2003 and was promoted to full professor in 2015. Professor Siniawer is the author of Waste: Consuming Postwar Japan (Cornell University Press, 2018).

Dr. Siniawer is a magna cum laude graduate of Williams College, where she majored in history. She holds a master’s degree in East Asian studies and a Ph.D. in history from Harvard University.

Alexandra Boltasseva, was appointed the Ron and Dotty Garvin Tonjes Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University in West Lafayette Indiana. She joined the faculty at the university in 2013.

Boltasseva earned bachelor’s and master’s in degrees in applied physics and mathematics at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. She holds a Ph.D. in nanophotonics and nanofabrication from the Technical University of Denmark.

Bettina Cornwall was named to the Philip H. Knight Chair in the Lundquist College of Business at the University of Oregon. She joined the faculty at the College of Business in 2010.

Professor Cornwell earned her undergraduate degree in marketing from Florida State University. She earned an MBA with an emphasis in international business and a doctorate in marketing with a minor in cognitive psychology from the University of Texas at Austin.
