The University of Kansas Has Appointed Barbara Bichelmeyer as Its Next Provost

Barbara Bichelmeyer has been named the next provost and executive vice chancellor at the University of Kansas. She will begin her new duties in February.

Douglas A. Girod, chancellor of the University of Kansas, said that “Barbara is a talented researcher and administrator as well as a proud alumna with an unabashed love for this place. She is a Jayhawk to the core and committed to this university’s success. For all these reasons, I have no doubt she will be a strong and effective leader.”

Dr. Bichelmeyer is currently a professor of management and the provost and executive vice chancellor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where she also served as interim chancellor. Prior to that, she held numerous leadership roles at Indiana University-Bloomington and elsewhere within the Indiana University system.

Professor Bichelmeyer holds bachelor’s degrees in journalism and English, a master’s degree in educational policy and administration, and a Ph.D. in educational communication and technology, all from the University of Kansas.
