Elizabeth Ryan Named Director of the Indiana University School of Medicine Campus in Gary

Elizabeth Ryan,has been named associate dean and director of the Indiana University School of Medicine-Northwest in Gary. The medical school program educates more than 80 students at all stages of their training and partners with 11 hospitals and five federally qualified health centers throughout northwest Indiana. The school is one of nine campuses in Indiana University’s statewide medical education system.

Most recently, Dr. Ryan served as vice chair of education in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. Before Northwestern, she held positions with Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Loyola University of Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, and West Suburban Hospital Medical Center.

“I am excited to be joining IU School of Medicine not just because of the school’s rich history, mission and core values, but also because of the warm, innovative culture I have already witnessed,” Dr. Ryan said. “I am also energized by what we can accomplish. As someone who was born and raised in the Chicago area, I am familiar with the unique needs of the Northwest-Gary community, and I feel well prepared to help meet those needs, as well as those of IU School of Medicine staff, faculty and learners.”

Dr. Ryan holds a doctorate in education with concentrations in curriculum and instruction, program evaluation and research methods from Loyola University of Chicago.
