In Memoriam: Mary A. Dineen, 1922-2017

Mary DineenMary A. Dineen, who served for 14 years as dean of the Boston College School of Nursing, died on March 4 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, New York. She was 94 years old.

A native of Niagara Falls, New York, she became a registered nurse working in hospitals in Niagara Falls and St. Louis. Returning to school, Dr. Dineen earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing at Saint Louis University. Later, she earned a master’s degree at Niagara University and a doctorate in nursing from Columbia University in New York City.

Dr. Dineen was one of the first faculty members at the College of Nursing at Niagara University in 1946. She was appointed dean of the School of Nursing at Boston College in 1972 and served in that position until her retirement in 1986
