In Memoriam: Joan Louise Voris, 1941-2017

Joan VorisJoan Louise Voris, former associate dean of the University of California, San Francisco’s medical education program in Fresno, died on February 11 at the Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. She was 75 years old and had suffered from cancer.

Dr. Voris earned a bachelor’s degree and a medical doctorate at Stanford University. After raising a family, she entered the pediatric residency program at UCSF Fresno at the age of 47. She joined the faculty at the university in 1990.

Dr. Voris was named associate dean in 2002, the same year she was diagnosed with breast cancer. In 2012, she began another battle with colon cancer. Through all this, she continued to serve on the faculty, retiring in 2015 as the longest-serving associate dean in UCSF Fresno history.
