A Pair of Women Scholars Named to Endowed Chairs at Major Universities

Hai “Helen” Li has joined the faculty at the Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, as the Clare Boothe Luce Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. She was an associate professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. Before, joining the academic world, Dr. Li worked for Qualcomm, Intel, and Seagate Technology. Her research is focused on brain-inspired computing systems.

Dr. Li holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. She earned a Ph.D. at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Sonja R. West is the inaugural holder of the Otis Brumby Distinguished Professorship in First Amendment Law at the University of Georgia School of Law. The late Otis Brumby was a graduate of the law school and served for 45 years as the publisher of the Marietta Daily Journal.

Professor West joined the faculty at the University of Georgia in 2006. Her research focuses on media law and constitutional law. She is a graduate of the University of Iowa and the University of Chicago Law School, where she was the executive editor of the University of Chicago Law Review.
