Leigh Neumayer to Lead the Medical Schools at the University of Arizona

Leigh NeumayerLeigh A. Neumayer was named interim senior vice president for health sciences at the University of Arizona. In this role she will lead the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson and the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Phoenix.

Dr. Neumayer holds the Margaret E. and Fenton L. Maynard Endowed Chair in Breast Cancer Research and is chair of the department of surgery on the Tucson campus. She is the first woman to hold the department chair.

Dr. Neumayer received a master’s degree in clinical research design and statistical analysis from the University of Michigan School of Public Health. She earned her medical degree at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and completed her residency in general surgery at the University of Arizona.

Dr. Neumayer will begin her new role on January 1.
