Mount Holyoke College Joins the New Media Arts Consortium

mount-holyoke-collegeThe Art Museum at Mount Holyoke College, the highly rated liberal arts college for women in South Hadley, Massachusetts, is forming a new partnership with five other institutions to establish the New Media Arts Consortium. The new alliance will collect and share digital, interactive, and new media works.

Joining Mount Holyoke in the new project are art museums at Bowdoin College and Colby College in Maine, Middlebury College in Vermont, Skidmore College in New York, and Brandeis University in Massachusetts.

Hannah Blunt, the associate curator of the Mount Holyoke College Art Museum (MHCAM), stated that “film and video art constitutes some of the most important artistic work today, and of the last several decades. By sharing in the purchase costs and technological challenges associated with new media artworks, the consortium enables us to augment MHCAM’s holdings and our programs with material that we have not previously been in a position to collect or exhibit with regularity. It’s a very exciting and innovative model for institutional collecting.”
