Five Women Scholars Awarded Tenure at Wesleyan University in Connecticut

The board of trustees of Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, has awarded tenure to eight faculty members. Five of the faculty members awarded tenure are women.

autryRobyn K. Autry is an associate professor of sociology. She is the author of the forthcoming book Desegregating the Past: The Public Life of Memory in South Africa and the United States (Columbia University Press). Dr. Autry is a graduate of the University of Colorado, Boulder. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

schakravartiSonali Chakravarti is an associate professor of government. She is the author of Sing the Rage: Listening to Anger After Mass Violence (University of Chicago Press, 2014). Dr. Chakravarti is a graduate of Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. She holds two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. from Yale University.

MB&B faculty portraitsAmy McQueen is an associate professor of molecular biology and biochemistry. Her research focuses on meiosis, the process of splitting and recombination of genetic material when reproductive cells are formed. Dr. McQueen is a graduate of Columbia University and holds a Ph.D. from Stanford University.

Paula_MatthusenPaula Matthusen is an associate professor music. She teaches courses on tonal harmony and experimental music. Dr. Matthusen is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from New York University. She won the 2014-15 Elliott Carter Rome Prize in composition.

VisvardiEirene Visvardi is an associate professor of classics. Her research focuses on Greek literature, particularly Athenian tragedies. She is the author of Emotion in Action: Thucydides and the Tragic Chorus (Brill, 2015). Dr. Visvardi is a graduate of the University of Crete. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Cambridge and a Ph.D. from Stanford University.
