Angie Maxwell, the Blair Professor of Southern Studies and associate professor of political science at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, was honored with the C. Hugh Holman Award by the Society for the Study of Southern Literature. Professor Maxwell was honored for her book The Indicted South: Public Criticism, Southern Inferiority, and the Politics of Whiteness (University of North Carolina Press, 2014). Dr. Maxwell was honored at the society’s annual conference in Boston earlier this month.
Earlier this year, Professor Maxwell won the V.O. Key Award for Best Book on Southern Politics for the same book at the annual meeting of the Southern Political Science Association, which was held in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Professor Maxwell joined the faculty at the University of Arkansas in 2010. She is a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in American studies from the University of Texas at Austin.
