In Memoriam: Virginia Anne Myers, 1927-2015

MyersVirginia A. Myers, the inventor of the Iowa Foil Printer and a longtime faculty member at the University of Iowa, died last month. She was 88 years old.

Myers BookA native of Cleveland, Ohio, Myers was a graduate of George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She earned a master of fine arts degree from the California College of Arts and Crafts, now the California College of the Arts.

After studying in Paris on a Fulbright Fellowship, Myers joined the faculty at the University of Iowa in 1962. She taught drawing and printmaking and retired as a professor emerita in 2012, after a half century on the faculty.

Myers and colleagues at the University of Iowa developed a device and patented a process to adhere foil to paper. She wrote two books on the subject including Foil Imaging: A New Art Form (WDG Communications, 2001).
