Academic Honors for a Trio of Women Scholars

CoicoLisa S. Coico, president of the City College of New York, has been selected to receive the 2016 Graduate School Alumnus Award from the Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences. The award, which will be presented in May 2016, recognizes outstanding contributions to biomedical research and education.

Dr. Coico has been president of City College since 2010. She is a graduate of Brooklyn College of the City University of New York System and holds a Ph.D. in microbiology and immunology from the Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences.

zollarJawole Willa Jo Zollar, a professor of dance at Florida State University in Tallahassee, received the 2015 Dance Magazine Award at ceremonies in New York City. Professor Zollar is the founder and director of the dance ensemble, Urban Bush Women.

Professor Zollar is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City and holds a master of fine arts degree from Florida State University.

Patty_Bowyer2Patricia Bowyer, an associate professor of occupational therapy on the Houston campus of Texas Woman’s University, has been selected to receive the Outstanding Mentor Award from the American Occupational Therapy Association. She will be honored at the association’s annual meeting in Chicago this coming April.

Dr. Bowyer is a graduate of Milligan College in Tennessee. She holds a master’s degree from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond and an educational doctorate from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City.
