In Memoriam: Anna Jane Pence Keller, 1920-2015

kellerAnna Jane Keller, a former administrator at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, died late last month in Raleigh. She died one day before her 95th birthday.

A native of Arlington, Virginia, Keller was a graduate of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. She taught in the public schools until World War II when she became an intelligence officer for the U.S. Coast Guard.

In 1960, Keller took a student recruiting job at North Carolina State University, where her husband was a professor of forestry. In 1974, she was named dean of undergraduate admissions at the university, the first women to hold a high-level administrative post at the university. She served as dean of admissions for 13 years.
