Scripps College President Leaving Post to Head the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County

Lori-Bettison-VargaLori Bettison-Varga, president of Scripps College in Claremont, California, announced that she is stepping down in order to become president of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. Dr. Bettison-Varga has served as president of Scripps College since 2009. She is scheduled to become president of the museum in October.

Before becoming president of Scripps College, Dr. Bettison-Varga was provost and dean of the faculty at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. Earlier, she was chair of the geology department at the College of Wooster in Ohio.

President Bettison-Varga is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in geology from the University of California, Davis.
