A Pair of Women Academics Elected to Lead National Organizations

floydCandace Floyd, an associate professor in the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Alabama Birmingham, was named president-elect of the National Neurotrauma Society. Dr. Floyd will serve one year as president-elect and then take over the leadership of the society in June 2016.

Dr. Floyd holds the Women’s Committee of Spain Rehabilitation Center Endowed Chair and is the director of research for the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation at the university. Her research is focused on developing new treatments for spinal cord injuries and traumatic brain injuries.

Dr. Floyd joined the faculty at the University of Alabama Birmingham in 2006. She holds a Ph.D. from the Medical College of Virginia.

Marilys R. NepomechieMarilys R. Nepomechie, a professor of architecture at Florida International University in Miami, is the new president of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture. The association was founded in 1912 and now has more than 250 member schools. Through these schools, more than 5,000 faculty members in the field of architecture are represented.

Professor Nepomechie has served on the faculty at Florida International University since 1997. She taught at the University of Miami from 1988 to 1996.

Professor Nepomechie is a graduate of the University of Florida, where she majored in English literature. She holds a master of architecture degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
