Jane Hardy, who taught in the department of communication at Cornell University for 34 years, died at the Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, New York on May 21. She was 85 years old.
A native of Fenelon Falls, Ontario, Hardy graduated from Cornell University in 1953 with a degree in floriculture. She returned to Canada and served as gardening editor for Canadian Homes magazine.
Hardy began teaching writing and editing courses in the communication department at Cornell in 1962 and retired in 1996 as a senior lecturer.
“As a senior lecturer in communication, Jane combined her love of nature, Cornell and writing in her courses on science writing and editing,” said Katherine McComas, professor of communication. “Those who worked with her or were fortunate enough to take her courses benefited from her thoughtfulness and dedication.”
