University of Houston Acquires the Papers of Maria Cristina Mena

McMenaThe University of Houston has announced that is has received the papers of Maria Cristina Mena for its special collections archives. Mesa was born in Mexico in 1893 to a well-to-do family and fled to New York to escape the Mexican Revolution.

Mena wrote 11 short stories between 1913 and 1916 that were published in The Century Magazine and American Magazine. She did not write again until 1942 when she began to publish a series of children’s books.

Mena died in 1965.
