Harvard Unveils Its First Official Portrait of a Latina

riosRosie Rios graduated from Harvard University in 1987. Today she is the Treasurer of the United States. In this role she directly oversees the U.S. Mint and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Her signature appears on every newly-printed denomination of U.S. paper currency.

Recently, Harvard unveiled an official portrait of Rios, which hangs in Winthrop House, where Rios lived while enrolled at Harvard. According to the university, the portrait is the first of a Latina to hang on a wall in any building at Harvard College.

Note: Since 1949 every person who has held the post of Treasurer of the United States has been a woman. Six of the last 10 appointees have been Latina.
