In Memoriam: Katherine M. Markee, 1931-2014

markiePhoto copyKatherine  Markee, who served for 43 years as a librarian at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, died in late July. She was 83 years old.

Markee joined the staff at Purdue in 1968 as a reference librarian. She later served for 22 years as databases librarian. In 1996, Markee was named director of the Archives and Special Collections Unit at Purdue Libraries. In 2006, she was appointed oral history librarian. Markee retired from the library staff at Purdue University in 2011.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Markee was a graduate of Trinity College in Washington, D.C. She earned a master’s degree from Columbia University in New York City and a master of library and information science degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
