In Memoriam: Tamara Makdad Albrecht, 1955-2014

tamara_albrecht_secTamara Albrecht, a longtime instructor in the department of music at Emory University, died on July 15 at her home in Decatur, Georgia. She was 59 years old.

A native of Pittsburgh, Dr. Albrecht was a graduate of Wittenberg University in Ohio. She held a master’s degree in organ performance from Northwestern University and a doctorate in worship studies from the Webber Institute in Orange Park, Florida.

Dr. Albrecht joined the faculty at Emory University in 1987 and recently served as organist and choirmaster at Cannon Chapel. “Tamara Albrecht was a beloved teacher and colleague whom we all will sorely miss,” says Kevin Karnes, music history professor and chair of the Emory music department. “Her energy and creativity, her caring and her patience are simply irreplaceable. Our department won’t be the same without her.”
