In Memoriam: Lillian Breslow Rubin, 1924-2014

Lillian B. Rubin, a sociologist and psychologist who wrote extensively on issues relating to gender, died late last month at her home in San Francisco. She was 90 years old.
A native of Philadelphia, Dr. Rubin held a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of California, Berkeley. She wrote a dozen books including Women of a Certain Age: The Midlife Search for Self (Harper & Row, 1979) and Intimate Strangers: Men and Women Together (HarperCollins, 1983).
During much of her career, Dr. Rubin served as a senior research associate at the Institute for the Study of Social Change at the University of California, Berkeley.
