In Memoriam: Carolyn J. Merry, 1950-2014

Carolyn J. Merry, former professor and chair of the department of civil, environmental, and geodetic engineering at Ohio State University, was killed in an automobile crash on June 3 on Interstate 71 in Madison County, Ohio. The vehicle she was driving was struck from behind by a tractor-trailer. Professor Merry was 63 years old.

Dr. Merry joined the faculty at Ohio State University in 1988. She retired from teaching in May 2013. She had served as president of the central Ohio chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Dr. Merry was the valedictorian of her high school class and a graduate of Edinboro State University in Pennsylvania. She earned a master’s degree in geology at Dartmouth College and a Ph.D. in engineering at the University of Maryland.
