Mary Szybist Wins National Book Award

szybistnational_book_award_medalMary Szybist, an associate professor of English at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, received the National Book Award for poetry. Szybist was honored for her poetry collection Incarnadine (Graywolf Press, 2013). Her earlier collection, Granted (Alice James Books, 2003), was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award.

Szybist is a native of Williamsport, Pennsylvania. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in teaching from the University of Virginia. She earned a master of fine arts degree at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop at the University of Iowa.
