Naval Academy to Have Sexual Assault Prevention as Part of Classroom Instruction

USNABill Byrne, the new commandant of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, has announced that midshipman will receive sexual assault prevention training as part of their classroom education beginning this fall. The training will be incorporated into an introductory course in Navy leadership and will also be included in other courses.

In the past, sexual assault prevention training occurred in seminars and other activities that were not tied to the educational curriculum at the academy.

Three Navy midshipmen are currently awaiting a judicial hearing on sexual misconduct charges. The three men have been accused of having sex with a women student who became intoxicated and incapacitated at an off-campus party.
