In Memoriam: Priscilla M. Clarkson, 1947-2013

Clarkson, PriscillaPriscilla M. Clarkson, Distinguished University Professor of kinesiology and dean of the Commonwealth Honors College at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, died at her home in Leverett, Massachusetts, earlier this week after battling breast cancer. She was 66 years old.

Professor Clarkson had a 36-year career at the University of Massachusetts. She was the founder and director of the university’s Muscle Biology and Imaging Laboratory and was the former president of the American College of Sports Medicine. For eight years she served as editor of the International Journal of Sports Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism and was editor-in-chief of Exercise and Sport Science Reviews. Professor Clarkson was the author of more than 200 peer-reviewed articles.

Dr. Clarkson was a native of Worcester, Massachusetts. She held bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, all from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
