In Memoriam: Elizabeth H. Jones, 1918-2013

Elizabeth-Jones_John-WashebaElizabeth Jones, former head of conservation at the Fogg Museum of Harvard University, died of respiratory failure at her home in Woodbury, Connecticut. She was 94 years old.

A native of Waterbury, Connecticut, Jones earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. After studying painting at the Art Students League of New York for two years, she worked at the Pratt & Whitney plant in Hartford, Connecticut, during World War II. After the war she studied chemistry at New York University and earned a master of fine arts degree at Radcliffe College.

In 1948 Jones joined the staff in the conservation department at the Fogg Museum. She served as director of the department for 22 years and was a lecturer in fine arts at Harvard University. After retiring from Harvard, Jones served as chief conservator at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
