In Memoriam: Cheryl Cavallo, 1946-2013

cavallo_200Cheryl Cavallo, assistant professor emerita of physical therapy at Saint Louis University, died late last month after battling breast cancer. She was 66 years old.

Dr. Cavallo served on the faculty at Saint Louis University for 32 years, retiring in 2011. She held bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. degrees, all from Saint Louis University.

Darina Sargeant, an associate professor of physical therapy at Saint Louis University and a close friend of Dr. Cavallo, stated,  “Cheryl saw her profession as a gift, but it was a gift because she could serve other people. She was doing ‘patient-centered’ care before it became a popular approach. She instilled that commitment to her patients in her co-workers and in every student she taught. She was always making you push yourself harder, and embodied the best of SLU as a woman for others.”
