New Grants or Gifts Relating to Women in Higher Education

money_bagHere is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.

Scripps College, a women’s college in Claremont, California, received a $2 million grant from the Malott Family Foundation to establish the Elizabeth Hubert Malott Endowed Chair for the Core Curriculum in Interdisciplinary Humanities. Elizabeth Hubert Malott, who died in 2003, was a 1953 graduate of Scripps College and later served on its board of trustees.

Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, received a $60,000 grant from the Elsevier Foundation to support the university’s Appalachian Women Scientists Program. The program supports early- to mid-career women scientists who are trying to balance family responsibilities and their career aspirations. The grant will provide funds for travel expenses and child care for women scientists participating in professional development activities.
