In Memoriam: Carol Schreier Rupprecht, 1939-2012

Carol S. Rupprecht, professor emerita of comparative literature at Hamilton College, died near her home in the Adirondack Mountains. She was 73 years old.

Professor Rupprecht began her academic career at Kirkland College. When Kirkland merged with Hamilton College in 1978, she remained on the faculty at Hamilton until her retirement in 2007. At Hamilton she served as associate dean of students and chair of the department of comparative literature.

Professor Rupprecht was the editor of The Dream and The Text: Essays on Literature and Language (State University of New York Press, 1993) and co-editor of Feminist Archetypal Theory: Interdisciplinary Re-Visions of Jungian Thought (University of Tennessee Press, 1985). She served as president of the International Association for the Study of Dreams, and was senior editor of its journal, Dreaming.

Dr. Rupprecht was a graduate of the University of Virginia. She held three degrees from Yale University, including a Ph.D. in comparative literature.
