Bates College Vice President to Lead the Arthur Vining Davis Foundation

Nancy J. Cable, vice president and senior adviser to the president at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, was named as the next president of the Arthur Vining Davis Foundation. She will begin her new duties in the spring. Based in Jacksonville, Florida, the Arthur Vining Davis Foundation was established in 1952 by one of the founders of the Aluminum Company of American (ALCOA). The foundation is a major contributor to higher education programs.

Dr. Cable joined the administration at Bates College in 2010 as vice president for enrollment and external affairs. She served as interim president earlier this year. Before joining the administration at Bates College, she held executive fundraising posts at the University of Virginia. From 1992 to 2005, she was vice president and dean of admission and financial aid at Davidson College in North Carolina.

Dr. Cable is a graduate of Marietta College in Ohio. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Vermont and a doctorate in educational history from the University of Virginia.
