Stanford Lands a Leading Scholar in English Studies

Elaine Treharne was named professor of English at Stanford University. She was a professor of English at Florida State University in Tallahassee. Professor Treharne previously taught at the University of Leicester in England. She specializes in late Old English and early Middle English manuscripts, their cultural contexts, contents and language.

Professor Treharne is editing a new four-volume Encyclopaedia of Book History: Manuscript, Print and Digital Technologies for Wiley-Blackwell, due to be published in 2014. She is the author of the forthcoming book Living Through Conquest: The Politics of Early English, 1020-1220 (Oxford University Press). She is the medieval editor for the Review of English Studies.

Dr. Treharne holds bachelor’s and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Manchester. She also earned a master’s degree from the University of Liverpool.
