In Memoriam: Mary Harvey Ross, 1925-2012

Mary H. Ross, professor emerita of entomology at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, died at her home in Blacksburg. She was 87 years old.
Professor Ross was known for her work on the genetics and behavior of the German cockroach, a species that she studied for more than 30 years at Virginia Tech.
Dr. Ross was a native of Albany, New York. She earned bachelor’s, master’s and Ph.D. degrees from Cornell University. She worked at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee, before joining the Virginia Tech faculty in 1951. She taught and conducted research at Virginia Tech for 38 years and was awarded emerita status in 1997.
