Rural Sociological Society Gives Its Highest Award to Louise Fortmann

Louise P. Fortmann, professor of environmental science, policy, and management at the University of California at Berkeley, has been selected to receive the 2012 Distinguished Rural Sociologist Award from the Rural Sociological Society. She will receive the award at the society’s 75th anniversary meeting in Chicago in July.

One aspect of her research involves how women and men differ in their access to, control of, management of, and responsibility for providing natural resources and natural resource products.

Dr. Fortmann is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University. She earned a Ph.D. in rural sociology from Cornell University.
