In Memoriam: Elsie M. Pinkston, 1937-2012

Elsie M. Pinkston, professor emerita at the School of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago, died late last month. She was 74 years old.

At the University of Chicago, Dr. Pinkston was the director of the Program Procedures Project in child welfare and previously directed the Elderly Support Project and the Parent Partnership Program. She joined the faculty of the University of Chicago in 1973 and retired from teaching in 2002.

Dr. Pinkston had a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in developmental and child psychology from the University of Kansas. She was the lead author of Effective Social Work Practice and Care of the Elderly: A Family Approach.
