In Memoriam: Dorothy V. Gonzales (1943-2012)

Dorothy V. Gonzales, who served on the board of trustees of Michigan State University from 1993 to 2008, has died at the age of 68. Lou Anna K. Simon, president of Michigan State, said that Gonzales “provided inspiration and a guiding hand to countless students during her long tenure on the board.”

In addition to her service on the board of trustees, Gonzales was an instructor in the university’s School of Social Work and a counselor in the university’s Office of Supportive Services.

Gonzales was a graduate of Sienna Heights College and held a master’s degree from Central Michigan University.

U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow of Michigan released a statement saying, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of my friend, Dorothy. She was an important education leader in the Hispanic community and a trailblazer for all women.”
