Angela Brenton Named Provost at Western Carolina University

Angela Laird Brenton was named provost at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina. Her appointment is effective August 1. The university enrolls about 7,500 undergraduate students and 2,000 graduate students.

Dr. Brenton has been serving as dean of the College of Professional Studies at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She has served in that position since 2001. Previously, she was dean of the Graduate School and associate vice provost for research and service at Abilene Christian University and earlier was chair of the department of communication and mass media at Missouri State University.

Dr. Brenton is a graduate of Oklahoma Christian College in Edmond. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma and a Ph.D. in communication studies from the University of Kansas.
